
A Black Tie/Evening Dress reception and dinner on HMS Belfast, in London, on the anniversary of the First Battle of the Falkland Islands (8th December 1914).
The Battle
The First Battle of the Falkland Islands was fought on the 8th December 1914, when a German Squadron, commanded by Admiral Graf von Spee, attempted to occupy Port Stanley. Unknown to Spee, a more powerful Royal Navy squadron was refuelling in Port Stanley, having been assembled under Admiral Sturdy with the task of finding, tracking and destroying Spee's force.
The Battle was the first major victory for the British in WWI. Losses were:
British, 10 dead, 19 wounded, no ships sunk;
German, some 1,900 killed, 215 captured, 6 ships sunk.
The Dinner
This is the inaugural Knight/Dames of the Primrose League dinner. Dress:
Knights: Black Tie
Dames: Evening Dress.
Miniatures and League badges to be worn.
Venue: The Admiral's Quarters, HMS Belfast.
There are a maximum of 16 places available, limited to Knights and Dames of the League. A notable guest speaker will join the dinner.
Timings: A pre-dinner reception will be held in the Admiral's Quarters from 18:45 to 19:30. The three course dinner itself will commence at 19:30 and end by 23:00. Limited(!) wine, port and coffee are included.
